You don't have to be a golfer to vacation on pristine Kiawah Island, located just off the South Carolina coast near Charleston, but it's an added bonus if you are.

Though the island boasts 10 miles of stunning beachfront, complete with breeze-blown sand dunes and waving sea grasses, it's the island's golf courses that draw visitors in droves. A private island, Kiawah is home to 5 championship courses located at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort and 2 more at Seabrook Resort. Both properties dominate the island and offers visitors amenities like restaurants, pools, and beach access.

The other primary attraction of Kiawah Island is the pristine beauty of the wisely protected natural amenities and its inhabitants.  The beach and waterways can be enjoyed and still look relatively the same today as they did hundreds of years ago.  Wildlife viewing is part of the daily life here.  A visit to the Heron Park Nature Center is a good first stop to learn more about the island.

The recreational amenities of Kiawah Island Golf Resort would be next in line and people come from all over the world to stay and enjoy the exceptional facilities.  Nearby James Island boasts a magnificent great-grandfather live oak specimen called Angel Oak.  There is no hoopla surrounding the protected tree, nor does there need to be, as it is singularly awesome.

The majority of commercial attractions would be in the greater Charleston community. There are no theme parks, but there is a wonderful waterfront aquarium on the Charleston Harbor and plenty of boat tours, carriage rides and plantation tours as well as numerous outdoor parks and recreation facilities nestled into the Lowcountry landscape.

Also thanks to Kiawah Island Golf Resort, there are two world ranked tennis centers, miles of waterways in which to paddle board, kayak and fish, swimming pools, kid’s camps and, of course, relaxing on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Kiawah Beachwalker Park offers the only public beach access on Kiawah Island.  An annual pass is required.
