HILTON HEAD COURSES
-
HARBOUR TOWN GOLF LINKS
18 holes, 71 par, 7,009 yards
It's the course that literally put Hilton Head Island on the world golf map, and now more than 40 years later, Harbour Town Golf Links remains one of the most revered courses in the world. Home to the RBC Heritage, South Carolina’s only PGA TOUR event, this distinguished course places a premium on finesse, imagination and shot making, rather than strength.
Put your game to the ultimate test against a collection of par threes, ranked among the world’s finest, and a par four 18th hole that is one of the most recognizable holes in all of golf. The crowning achievement of famed designer Pete Dye, no golf excursion to Hilton Head Island is complete without experiencing this Lowcountry legend.
-
ATLANTIC DUNES GOLF CLUB
18 holes, 72 par, 7,065 yards
Atlantic Dunes by Davis Love III is a complete reconstruction of The Sea Pines Resort's historic Ocean Course, the first course built on Hilton Head Island. Featuring a pronounced seaside ambience and Lowcountry feel accented by coquina shells and seaside grass, Atlantic Dunes incorporates elements of the surrounding beachfront along with the area's native pines and oaks.
Atlantic Dunes benefits both visually and strategically from the restoration of natural sand dunes, as well as the creation of new dunes that blend seamlessly into the design. Tens of thousands of indigenous plants have been installed in these areas to complete the seaside feel, while the playing surface is a blend of cutting-edge grasses matching the superior strains of The Sea Pines Resort's two other acclaimed courses.
-
HERON POINT GOLF CLUB
18 holes, 72 par, 7,035 yards
Re-designed by legendary architect Pete Dye, Heron Point is now more player-friendly, and the result is an award-winning stroke of genius.
At 7,035 yards from the back tees, Heron Point can play considerably shorter if needed, with seven sets of tees on each hole. Golfers are challenged by risk-reward long and short holes, fairways that move toward and away from hazards and Dye's ubiquitous mounding and swales framing target areas. On four holes with water guarding the greens, alternating wood and grass walls create conspicuous bulkheads, visually dramatizing the peril. Even more striking, a mixture of grasses, sand, mulch and limestone surfaces provides a vivid tapestry of color for this Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.
One of Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play" and South Carolina's 2015 Golf Course of the Year, this cohabitation of beauty and beast is an enjoyable treat for every level of golfer.
-
PALMETTO DUNES ROBERT TRENT JONES COURSE
Named South Carolina’s Golf Course of the Year, the Robert Trent Jones Oceanfront Course is widely renowned for its open, inviting layout and spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean.
A true pinnacle of design, this golf course appeals to novices as well as experienced players. Home to one of only two oceanfront holes on Hilton Head Island, this much-loved course offers wide fairways, expansive greens, challenging bunkers and subtle elevation changes.
The most wide open of the three Palmetto Dunes layouts, the Jones golf course changes with the breezes rolling in from the Atlantic Ocean, making every hole play differently whenever the winds change. -
PALMETTO DUNES GEORGE FAZIO COURSE
Hilton Head Island’s only par-70 public golf course, the George Fazio course was named the 2014 South Carolina Golf Course of the Year by the SC Golf Course Owners Association. The layout offers an exhilarating experience and is revered as the island’s truest championship challenge.
One of the youngest golf courses to be featured on Golf Digest’s list of America’s 100 Best, the course features tree-lined fairways, relatively small greens and and undulating surfaces throughout.
The four finishing holes are especially noteworthy, three well-bunkered par 4s and the great par-3 17th over water with out-of-bounds creeping in from the left. With new state-of-the-art Diamond Zoysia greens, the Fazio Course delivers a peak golf experience. -
PALMETTO DUNES ARTHUR HILLS COURSE
Arthur Hills took full advantage of the Lowcountry’s dramatic coastal beauty when he designed this award-winning course at Palmetto Dunes. Tucked within the serene enclave of Leamington, this shot-maker’s favorite offers continuous lines of dunes, a rolling layout, numerous water hazards and thick stands of palmettos. This course emphasizes accuracy and precision over distance, providing formidable challenges at every turn.
The course is home to one of the Lowcountry’s most historic lighthouses, the Hilton Head Range Light Station, which guided ships into Port Royal Sound beginning in the late 1800’s. Hills features rolling fairways and ocean breezes as well as an extensive network of lagoons winding through 10 different holes. -
HILTON HEAD NATIONAL GOLF CLUB
18 holes, 72 par, 6,730 yards
“Clean Sweep of the Majors“. Hilton Head National Golf Club received the “ Reader’s Choice Award “ for favorite golf course by three of the largest publications in the Low Country, The Island Packet Newspaper, The Bluffton Today Newspaper and Hilton Head Monthly Magazine. </P.
Sprawling across 300 acres of lush, Carolina Lowcountry, Hilton Head National Golf Club has gained a reputation as being one of the area's best public courses. The course was a collaboration between Gary Player and Bobby Weed, who each designed a nine. Weed designed the front nine with the intention of creating a complement to the Player-designed back nine rather than making them too similar. He included larger greens with more dramatic undulations.
With no development on the course whatsoever, Hilton Head National is golf in its truest sense. No houses, no villas, no condo’s and as Gary Player put it,” it is truly a treat to be given 300 acres of the best tree rich bottom land that I have ever seen”.

THE AREA
HILTON HEAD ISLAND
Hilton Head Island is the largest barrier island off the Atlantic, covering 42 square miles — 12 miles long and 5 miles wide at its widest point. Hilton Head Island’s perennial subtropical climate makes this an ideal setting for golf, which is why Hilton Head Island boasts more golf per capita than anywhere in the country. Golfers can find more than 33 world-class golf courses in the Lowcountry, including on Hilton Head Island, in Bluffton and on Daufuskie Island. There are more than a million rounds of golf played on Hilton Head Island every year. While some of the island's courses are private, the rest are outstanding public and resort courses that will satisfy the palate of even the most selective golfers. Hilton Head Island boasts plenty of culture and nightlife, and is more sophisticated and upscale than its neighbor four hours to the north, Myrtle Beach. The southend of the island is where the largest collection of restaurants, pubs and nightlife is located.
