It would be impossible to fully describe St Andrews and the surrounding area in writing. It is something one has to experienced in person to truly do it justice.

Visiting St Andrews remains the top "bucket list" item of millions of golfers worldwide. With few sports celebrating and cherishing their history more than golf, discovering St Andrews and it's courses is something one has to experience at least once in their lifetime.

Visiting St Andrews, and Carnoustie, Berwick and Gleneagles as well, provides all the variety that you could hope for from a single trip to this golfing mecca. With historic championship venues, quirky and welcoming seaside courses and luxury inland layouts, this area of Scotland has it all.

Playing the Old Course at St Andrews is truly a memorable, and sometimes scary, experience. The game as we know it was born here and 28 Open Championships have been contested here. No matter how many times you play The Old Course, you will undoubtedly have some shaking hands on the first tee.

The town itself is as charming and historic as the courses themselves. Many people are surprised to discover that St Andrews is a relatively small town, with a permanent residential population of only 17,000 or so. There can be few, if any, places of such modest size that are so well known around the world.

This fact helps make St Andrews a particularly visitor-friendly town. Everything is within easy reach, and the town centre is less than a mile across. Golf, practice, lodging, shopping and dining are all within walking distance in this historic town.

The people who live in St Andrews have a strong sense of civic pride as well, as can be seen in the well-cared for streets and public areas. The central parts of town are protected conservation areas, and even on the outskirts, large-scale development has been shunned, there are no factories or out-of-town shopping malls to be found anywhere.

The University of St Andrews, with some 7,000 undergraduates, is the town’s major employer, and one can find its' students all around town, giving this historic town a unique and fun blend of the old and the young.

St Andrews’ long-standing reputation as a vacation destination has blessed it with a plethora of places to stay, shop and dine, most of which are unrivaled in terms of quality and variety.

After almost 1,000 years of greeting and serving visitors, the hospitality of the locals is instinctive, genuine and ingrained. Everyone is made to feel welcome and no one is a stranger in St Andrews!
